Date: October 17, 2025

Venue: Agyeimpra Methodist Primary & JHS, Offinso – Ashanti Region

Partner: Ghana National Fire Service (Boamang District Fire Station)

As part of its mission to build resilient and safety-conscious communities, Globalnet Foundation, in collaboration with the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Boamang District, organized a Fire Safety Education and Training Program for pupils and staff of Agyeimpra Methodist Primary and Junior High School at Offinso of the Ashanti Region.

The initiative forms part of the Foundation’s five core pillars, particularly its commitment to Safety Education and Training for Communities and Institutions, aimed at promoting proactive fire prevention and emergency response skills among citizens.

Topics Covered During the Training

  • Causes and Classes of Fire: Participants were educated on the various causes of fire, including electrical faults, carelessness with open flames, and improper storage of combustible materials. Trainers also explained the different classes of fire (A, B, C, D, and K) and the appropriate extinguishing methods for each.
  • Safe Evacuation Procedures During Fire Incidents: Pupils and teachers were taken through step-by-step evacuation procedures, emphasizing the importance of staying calm, identifying exit routes, and assembling at designated safe zones. The session included practical demonstrations to enhance understanding.
  • How to Use a Fire Extinguisher and Fire Blanket: The Ghana National Fire Service team demonstrated the PASS technique (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, and Sweep) in using a fire extinguisher. Participants were also shown how to use a fire blanket to suppress small fires or protect oneself from flames.
  • Emergency Reporting: Attendees were sensitized on the need for timely and accurate fire reporting. They were educated on emergency numbers, the importance of describing the fire scene clearly, and how early reporting can prevent loss of lives and property.

Impact of the Training

The interactive session created a strong awareness of fire safety among both students and staff. It empowered participants with practical skills and preventive attitudes, ensuring they become safety ambassadors in their school and community.

According to the facilitators from Globalnet Foundation, the exercise aligns with the Foundation’s broader goal of reducing fire-related incidents and promoting community resilience through knowledge and preparedness. Safety begins with awareness. When children understand fire prevention and emergency response, we build a safer future for everyone.

I’m glad to see such education in the lower level of our nation, this is what the country should have been doing to avoid more fire outbreaks,

Keep on doing the good job to educate more people and I will suggest some of these life threatening situations should be part of our curriculum so that the next generation will understand the issues of fire safety prevention!
