GLOBALNET FOUNDATION CONDUCTS FIRE SAFETY EDUCATION FOR BOAMANG D/A BASIC SCHOOL.
Organized By: Globalnet Foundation
Partner: Ghana National Fire Service (Boamang Fire Station)
School: Boamang D/A Basic School.
DATE: 23/10/2025
On October 23, 2025, Globalnet Foundation in partnership with Ghana National Fire Service delivered a dynamic fire safety education program to students and staff of Boamang D/A Basic School blending theory with practical demonstrations to equip the school community with life-saving knowledge and emergency response skills. The initiative was part of the foundation’s broader mission to build resilient communities through safety education and technological empowerment.
Theory Meets Practice: A Holistic Approach to Fire Safety
The session was designed to be both educational and interactive, ensuring participants understood the science of fire and could respond effectively in real-life scenarios. The training covered five key areas:
Causes and Classes of Fire
Students were introduced to the most common causes of fire, such as faulty electrical wiring, unattended cooking, flammable liquids and gases, careless use of matches and lighters, smoking materials, heating equipment, and even natural causes like lightning strikes. Arson was also discussed as a deliberate and dangerous cause of fire outbreaks.
They also learned that fires are classified based on the type of material burning:
Class A fires involve ordinary combustibles like wood, paper, and cloth.
Class B fires are caused by flammable liquids such as petrol, oil, and paint.
Class C fires involve electrical equipment like appliances and wiring.
Class D fires are fueled by combustible metals such as magnesium and titanium.
Class K fires occur in kitchens and involve cooking oils and fats.
All the students required a specific method of extinguishing to avoid worsening the situation. This knowledge helps students identify the type of fire and choose the correct response method.
Fire Extinguisher Practical
Globalnet facilitators and GNFS team taught the PASS technique Pull, Aim, Squeeze, and Sweep to operate fire extinguishers effectively. Students practiced using extinguishers on controlled flames, gaining confidence in their ability to respond to small fires safely and efficiently. The excitement and curiosity among students were palpable as they took turns handling the equipment, many for the first time.
Fire Blanket Demonstration
Participants were shown how to use fire blankets to smother flames, especially those involving clothing or kitchen fires. Volunteers practiced wrapping and extinguishing mock fires, reinforcing the importance of calm and swift action during emergencies. The demonstration emphasized that even simple tools can be powerful when used correctly.
Safe Evacuation During Fire Outbreaks
A simulated fire drill taught students and staff on how to evacuate safely. Key lessons included staying low to avoid smoke inhalation, following Stop, Drop and Roll Approach if the victim is trap in fire zone. Teachers were trained to maintain order and ensure all students were accounted for during emergencies. The drill helped identify areas for improvement in the school’s emergency preparedness plan.
Introduction of Emergency Response App
The session concluded with an introduction of Globalnet’s Emergency Response App, a digital tool designed with these core features:
- One Tap Emergency Reporting
- GPS Auto Location
- Photo, Video, Text & Voice Massaging
- Interactive Map Dispatch Console
- Live Navigation System and Tracking
Staffs were encouraged to download the app and explore its features, which aim to enhance community-level preparedness. The app was praised for its user-friendly interface and potential to save lives during critical moments.
Community Impact and Future Plans
The headteacher of Boamang D/A Basic School praised the initiative, noting that it was the first time many students had received such interactive fire safety training. staffs expressed appreciation for the program, recognizing its value in protecting their students and the school.
Globalnet Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to expanding fire safety education across schools in the Ashanti Region and beyond. Plans are underway to introduce similar programs in other districts, with a focus on rural communities that often lack access to emergency training and resources.
Globalnet Foundation Major Project.
- Provision of advanced firefighting technologies: Providing a cutting-edge firefighting tools including fire extinguisher drones, rapid intervention vehicles, and advanced fire tunics to enhance emergency responses capabilities and protect firefighters.
- Fire safety education and training for communities and institutions: conducting practical fire safety education programs for communities, transport unions, schools, churches, offices, workplaces and market to promote awareness and prevention.
- Development of an emergency response mobile application: we are developing a digital
emergency platform that connects citizens to safety agencies like Ghana national fire service, Ghana police, ambulance with one SOS alert. quick access to emergency service at the touch of a button.
- Establishment of community fire station and reservoirs systems: we work with the local authorities and partners to set up community fire stations and water reservoirs systems in underserved communities.
- National safety awareness and advocacy: beyond emergency responses, there must be continuous national awareness campaigns. the foundation seeks to work with radio stations, tv stations and all social media handles to sensitize the public, especially transport operators, on the risks of fire outbreaks, preventive practices, and reporting mechanisms. advocacy will also push for policies requiring functions fire extinguisher in all commercial trucks.
Conclusion
The fire safety education program conducted by Globalnet Foundation at D/A Basic School, Boamang was more than just a training, it was a transformative experience. By combining theory with practical demonstrations, students and staff gained critical knowledge and hands-on skills that could one day save lives.
The introduction of the Globalnet Emergency Response App added a modern layer of protection, ensuring that technology plays a role in enhancing safety and response times. As fire hazards continue to pose risks in schools and communities, initiatives like this are vital in building a culture of preparedness and resilience.
Globalnet Foundation’s commitment to safety education is commendable, and their outreach to Boaman marks a promising step toward a fire-aware generation. The hope is that more schools will benefit from such programs, turning knowledge into action and fear into confidence.
