Globalnet Foundation, in partnership with the Boamang Fire Station, successfully delivered a comprehensive Fire Safety Education Program at Great Minds International School located in Ahenkro, Afigya Kwabre North District. The exercise formed part of Globalnet Foundation ongoing Community Safety Awareness Program aimed at equipping young learners with basic knowledge and practical fire safety skills. Two separate sessions were organized for effective engagement including,
- Nursery & Kindergarten Session: Held at the early childhood campus, focusing on simple, child-friendly demonstrations, familiarization with fire safety concepts, and safe behavior during emergencies.
- Basic School Session: Conducted at the main campus for pupils in primary and JHS with more detailed explanations and practical demonstrations.
Topics Covered:
- Causes of Fire: Common household, school, and environmental causes, and how to prevent them.
- Classes of Fire: Understanding the different fire types and appropriate extinguishing methods.
- Safe Evacuation Procedures: How to respond during a fire outbreak, including “stop, drop and roll,” assembly points, and orderly evacuation.
- Use of Fire Extinguisher: Step-by-step demonstration using the PASS technique (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep).
- Use of Fire Blanket: Practical instructions on smothering small fires safely.
The program enhanced fire awareness among the pupils and strengthened the school’s safety preparedness. Both the school management and students expressed appreciation for the initiative.
